I’ll go through some of the most useful other features in Ableton Live you should know about. In fact, the deep features that really make it stand out aren’t always obvious at first. So far I’ve barely scratched the surface of what Live is capable of. It provides the realism of impulse responses with the dreaminess of reverb algorithms in one stylish package. In Session view, playback or recording starts when you click the transport icon in a clip or slot’s left side. Software instruments and effects in Ableton Live appear along the bottom of the window in both Session and Arrangement views. Live is available as a physical product at some music retailers, but the easiest way to buy the software is to download it directly from the Ableton website. Plus, you can always add your own free VST plugins to your collection for more sonic variety. But sometimes limitations can boost creativity-especially when you’re just getting started. On the surface, Live Intro may seem limited, with only 16 available tracks. But don’t think that means that the other versions aren’t useful. Live is powerful software, and the flagship edition comes with a heavy price tag.
The most surprising thing for me was how many of my books were connected to a negative emotion or feeling. Again, try not to overthink decisions-work quickly and don't draw the process out too long! Keep working through the pile this way until you have made a "yes" or "no" decision on every book that you own. Be careful not to start reading any of the books-just make an impulse judgement! Decide whether to keep or discard each book depending on how each one makes you feel as you hold it. The process begins in much the same way as the clothing category: empty all your bookshelves and anywhere else you might be storing books (don't forget to check the attic!) Take each book one by one and ask yourself if it sparks joy. How do you declutter books using the KonMari method?įor this category, you'll need some good sturdy boxes for your "discard" pile-we chose to donate all of our discarded books but you may wish to have separate boxes for donate/sell/recycle-depending on how you choose to do it. At the very least, your books and bookshelves will get a thorough dusting and you may rediscover some old favorites that you want to reread! If you end up with the same number of copies at the end of this category it doesn't matter one bit, as long as you have intentionally made that decision to keep them because they add value to your life. The true and underlying purpose of this process is to be certain that everything in your home has been chosen, and in order to do that, you need to go through the process of choosing. Guess what? Marie Kondo is not making you get rid of anything. I know it can be difficult to stay open-minded about this process, but please hear this: if you hold every single book that you own and want to keep them all, that is perfectly ok as it is 100% your choice. Some people may get upset at the thought of discarding any at all, as each title is like an old friend. What if I want to hold onto all of my books?īefore we get into it, the first thing I wanted say about books is that that they can be a very personal and emotional thing. How do you organize the books that you are going to keep?.What about books that I haven't read yet?.
It’s a productivity tracker, daily planner, organizer or just a notebook. A lot of guys do it, but as I said before, they give it another name. Well, most of the men that I speak to cringe when they hear that phrase. The First Rule Of Bullet Journaling For Men Is… It’s Not A Bullet Journal. I started off with the Franklin Planners in the late 80’s and evolved to just using notebooks because they were less restrictive than the Franklin. Sure, it wasn’t exactly the same system, but close enough. I was bullet journaling before Ryder Carrol gave it a name. A Man’s pocket bujo by Flocculencio … and from Instagram… organized_man via Instagram – Two words that say it all: “vacation begins” I prefer pocket journals, and use one in addition to my full size (5.5×8.5 inch) bujo. Other men prefer the pocket size bullet journal technique. One man’s bullet journal weekly page by itsonlybarney via Reddit I don’t see a lot of decorations and definitely haven’t seen any washi tape (but it doesn’t mean that there isn’t a guy out there washi taping the s*it out of his journal either). Most men prefer a leaner, more minimal style bullet journal, such as the one demonstrated in the original introduction/how-to video. In any case, bullet journaling serves a purpose, and to each their own. I love cartooning in whatever horrible fashion it comes out in, and I need to keep organized because I feel that my memory is pretty bad. We certainly know a thing or two about Quake celebrations here at Shacknews, celebrating our own 25th birthday in honor of the franchise that gave this site life. 25 years is a long time for a franchise to be kicking about, but in many circles, Quake is still as beloved as the first day it introduced players to 3D arena gunplay and rocket jumps. The blocky-looking Quake avatar is a fun nod back to the history of the Quake series. The Quake Guy skin and Gladus Axe will unlock within 24-48 hours of completing the requisite challenges. There are also other cosmetics such as the Quake Axe Vanity item available for purchase in the in-game shop. By logging into Quake Champions and completing any three of a collection of birthday challenges, players can unlock the Classic Ranger skin for the Quake Ranger in the game. With Quake celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, the developers are kicking off festivities and celebrations for the game in style. With Quake crossing its 25th anniversary as a franchise this year, Bethesda and id Software are celebrating the beloved arena shooter with a new “25 Days of Quake” celebration. Quake Champions is still around and Bethesda and id Software are still supporting it with new content. It’s not quite the ideal state, but Quake is still alive and kicking these days in some official form. In this example, the Jenga tower represents the combined ego of both the PC and the intelligent weapon. Unlike the other challenges, this one focuses on a single player versus the DM as the PC and the weapon battle for dominance over one another. This final example represents a challenge between a single PC and an egotistical intelligent weapon. If the lock collapses on the DMs turn, the PCs were able to successfully disarm the lock without any negative consequence. If the lock collapses when a player is drawing a block, the lock became unstable and all PCs take 20 damage per tier in unstable arcane energy feedback. Like before, a successful skill roll against the lock forces the DM to draw two blocks. Each player who chooses to alternates with the DM drawing blocks. If the lock is particularly difficult, you might use a hard DC. Like the primordial prison, the lock has a standard DC appropriate for the level. In this challenge the players are free to choose who tries to break the lock each turn. The arcane lock is a simpler challenge used to represent a powerful wizard's lock. If the tower falls on the DM's draw Kalak's ghost is overcome by the PCs psionic attacks and gains -4 to all defenses. If the tower falls on the player's draw, the ghost of Kalak grows stronger, gaining +5 damage to all damage rolls. After the pull, the battle returns to normal. If the player lost the skill roll, the DM only has to pull one block. If the player won the skill roll, the DM now draws two blocks. Regardless of the result, the player pulls a block from the Jenga tower. When the PC takes this action, he or she rolls an arcana or endurance check against Kalak's skill roll of +14 arcana. As a minor action, any PC may engage Kalak in a psionic duel. While the physical battle takes place, a psionic battle also wages. Scenario: The psionic battle with the ghost of KalakĪ party of Dark Sun adventurers finds themselves in a battle with the ghost of Kalak, the sorcerer king. Now we'll get into some example scenarios that might use this Jenga contest. You can use the DM Cheat Sheet to determine an appropriate skill check and use easy, normal, or hard checks based on the circumstances of the situation. If the Jenga contest represents a contest between PCs and an inanimate construct such as an ethereal prison, the PCs roll against a static difficulty check. If Magdar the PC wins the roll, Xathar must draw two blocks on the DM's turn instead of just one. For example, if Magdar the Mottled, a wizard of no small power, engages in a psionic contest with Xathar the Demilich, they each roll opposed arcane checks. If the Jenga contest represents a contest between PCs and a conscious antagonist, each side engages in an opposed roll. This gives players an advantage without throwing the game too much in their favor. A failed skill check means the DM only has to pull one block on his or her turn. A successful skill check forces the DM to pull TWO blocks instead of just one. We also want to give players an advantage over the DM. Though it is a completely different game, we want Jenga to fit well into D&D. If the tower falls on the DM's turn, the players succeed. If the tower falls during a player's turn, the players fail. The basic challenge involves one or more players alternating turns with the DM as they pull out blocks from the Jenga tower. In either case, the PCs engage in a challenge against either an enemy or a construct to gain a story advantage. Instead of an enemy, the challenge might be against an inanimate construct such as an ethereal prison or a powerful arcane lock. This enemy may be an actual entity such as a psionic lich or an ancient spirit haunting the PC's dreams. One or more players engages in a contest against an enemy or a construct. Dre is first and foremost an orchestrator, someone who is more than happy to re-direct the shine elsewhere. So, then! Why does Compton succeed where, say, something like Magna Carta Holy Grail was a deflated balloon of middle-aged meh? Part of it is because Dre is an all-time great string-puller, more than happy to outsource the album’s vitality to more youthful, less calloused hands. (Dre is also using the album's proceeds to fund a new arts center in his hometown, which is pretty dad.) Or maybe there's wisdom in killing your darlings. Maybe that says more about us, the fans, and managing our expectations than it does about the people actually making stuff. But rap and youth have been so tightly interwoven that the Venn circles of good albums made by guys over 40 is woefully thin-especially if you’re not named E-40 and didn’t have a verse on Enter the Wu-Tang-that Compton’s quality is almost a sigh of relief, considering the potential for disaster Chinese Democracy this is not. And it’s definitely not a lament over the way hip-hop used to be. This is not a bad thing, or maybe even a thing. In fact, as the closing set to the weekend, when most everyone in attendance had already pushed their zombified bodies to the edge, Dre and Snoop were so surgical, so mesmerizing, so revitalizing-from the way guests stars like Kurupt, Warren G, Eminem, 50 Cent, and 2Pac’s hologram who were all trotted out in ascending order of whoa, mindfuckness, to the perfect sensory cocktail of eardrum-rattling sonics and visuals-that all anyone in my little festival platoon could think was: This shit is on another level, and it isn’t even close.Ĭompton’s quality is almost a sigh of relief, considering the potential for disaster Chinese Democracy this is not. But far and away the best performance of the whole three-day affair belonged to a late-forties pile of pectorals crammed into a way-too-tight black tee: Dr. Sure, there were plenty of whoa, mindfuck performances that made me want to crush an empty PBR can with my skull-At the Drive-In, Girls, and an assuming quiet lad with funky hair who called himself The Weeknd were easy highlights. In Captain Marvel, Anette Bening’s character was the MCU’s gender-swapped take on Mar-Vell, the original Captain Marvel and the person who inspired Carol Danvers to become a superhero in the first place. But whatever you think of Aldous Huxley’s seminal dystopia Brave New World, I think we can all agree that it’s better than subtitling your Captain America movie, featuring an Israeli superhero, with an anti-Semitic dog whistle.Ĭaptain America: Brave New World has a packed cast of old and relatively new faces, pulling some characters introduced in Falcon and the Winter Soldier, like Joaquin Torres and Isaiah Bradley and others from way, way back in the continuity of the MCU’s Hulk movies.
